We took a trip to Greenwich, home of the prime meridian. A British professor from Cambridge led us on a 2 hour tour of the beautiful place. We learned a great deal about the Palace of Placentia--the birthplac
The guide also took us past the Prime Meridian, but he revealed that the popular tourist picture spot is not located at 0 degrees longitude. The real center is some yards away at a spot called "One Tree Hill".
After the tour, we wandered with a few group members. At one point we were very desperate for food so we resorted to a restaurant called PHILLIES, apparently named directly after the baseball team. The people serving us were also French, so overall a very confusing place to be. So we ate our "American" food as Phoenix was playing in the background.
Once we ate, we continued to wander in and out of museums. Eventually we stopped at Trafalgar Tavern, one of the oldest pubs in Greenwich. We enjoyed a nice pint and learned Charles Dickens commonly frequented the pub.
Tomorrow we begin class :(
Important lessons learned today:
-One Tree Hill is not just a terrible show. It is also a hill in Greenwich.
-Trash=rubbish, no pulp=no bits, drunk-driving=drink-driving, and Greenwich=cold.
-Charles Dickens was a fun lovin guy who liked to get wasteeeeddd
-Greenwich uses festivals as an excuse to drink. Which is OK with us.
-Flirting in medieval Greenwich consisted of rolling down a hill together at top speeds and occasionally breaking your neck.
-Tower Bridge is not the same as London Bridge
-Throughout most of history, the British were better than everyone else.
Sooo that's about it.
OH we got "mulled wine" at a bar called Swan and they carded us. That was upsetting.
also BREAKING NEWS: we just got upgraded from Continental to English breakfast FO FREE. It's impossible to understand how exciting this is until you realize that "continental" breakfast is actually just tea and toast. Its also exciting because we have been starving the past few hours due to the lack of food in our hotel room. So we're going to bed now to make breakfast get here faster.
